Woman found dead on a dirt road in Celaya identified
Celaya, Guanajuato — The violence plaguing various regions of the country is once again shaking society with a new case that has caused consternation. Authorities confirmed this Monday the identity of the woman found dead on a dirt road outside the community of San José de Guanajuato, in the municipality of Celaya.
The victim was identified as Itzel Gómez Hernández , 28, from the same city. Her body was found last Saturday morning by residents passing by, who immediately called 911 after noticing a suspicious-looking object in the middle of the rural road.
The discovery
According to the official report from the State Attorney General’s Office, the young woman’s body showed clear signs of violence . She was found partially wrapped in a blanket, with visible wounds on her face and extremities, suggesting she was the victim of a brutal attack.
Members of the National Guard and the Municipal Police cordoned off the area while forensic experts removed the body and collected evidence. The area was monitored for several hours to prevent any disturbance of the discovery site.
A devastated family
Itzel’s relatives went to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) after seeing social media posts describing physical characteristics similar to those of the young woman. There, they painfully confirmed that it was her.
Itzel had been reported missing since Thursday , after failing to return home following a job interview. Her cell phone lost signal, and her social media accounts have been inactive since that day.
“She was a good, hard-working girl, just looking for an opportunity to get ahead. We don’t understand who could have done this to her,” her mother, María Hernández, told local media through tears.
Ongoing investigation
The Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a femicide investigation has been opened , and surveillance cameras, testimony, and the victim’s cell phone call history are being analyzed to try to reconstruct her last movements.
The public has also been asked to collaborate in obtaining any information that could help identify those responsible. So far, no arrests have been made , but authorities assure they already have solid lines of investigation.
Another case that shakes Guanajuato
