Every person is beautiful in their own way, and the same goes for newborns.
When a baby girl named Angelica was born in 2018, her family was overjoyed. She had beautiful facial features and a heart-shaped port-wine stain, which made her even more special. Unfortunately, not everyone recognized the beauty of her unique mark.
According to Angélica’s mother, the family accepted her the way she is and even loved her birthmark, but there were those who took the liberty of commenting on the girl’s appearance.
“The worst comment I’ve ever received online was when someone asked if her face had been shoved into a frying pan. They basically said her face looked like it had been grilled,” Angelica’s mother Marianna Bowering told the Mirror.

Marianna also said that there were times when her daughter was labeled as “horrible” and “defective.” This affected the family negatively and only added to the challenge they faced, but they were determined to overcome the negative effects of the mean words and comments.
No matter what others say, Angelica’s family taught her to love herself just the way she is.
To help her daughter feel better, Marianna decided to paint her face with what looked like a birthmark, just like Angelica’s.
“I got the idea from vascular birthmark awareness day, where people are encouraged to paint a heart on their cheeks,” the mother said, according to The Epoch Times . “Initially, I just did the heart with makeup, but then I thought: why not take a risk and do Angélica’s port wine stain?”

Whenever someone tried to “comfort” Marianna by telling her that her daughter’s birthmark would eventually fade or that she could hide it with makeup when she got older, it only made this mother even more devastated, as she couldn’t help but wonder if Angelica would be forced to hide her natural beauty instead of embracing it.
It was a reminder that societies have these norms about what a person needs to look like in order to fit in and be accepted.
Her family always told Angelica that she should love herself just the way she is. There were times when Marianna would cover her daughter’s port wine stain with glitter so that it would shine brightly.

“Luckily, we had tests done and Angelica is completely healthy,” Marianna said of her daughter, referring to the fact that children with this type of birthmark can develop other health problems. “We just need to have regular checkups, especially of the eyes, as glaucoma can be a concern.”
We are happy that Angelica has learned to love herself and accept her birthmark.
She is a very beautiful young lady, don’t you agree?
